Brazil legend Roberto Carlos says Atletico Madrid striker, Diego Costa, was right to snub the World Cup host nation in favor of a Spain call-up.
The FIFA World Cup Dream Team defender backed the Rojiblancos talisman's decision to change his national team, one which brought much surprise to the Chelsea-bound forward's country of birth, Brazil.
La Liga's 25-year-old star attacker stirred up controversy when he opted to wear a La Roja jersey over Brazil's yellow one after failing to get adequate playing time under the Selecao coach, Luiz Felipe Scolari.
"[He] made the right call, because he knows that he will get more games for Spain," the retired left-back said.
HE MADE THE RIGHT CALL: Brazil legend Roberto Carlos says Diego Costa made the right choice in his Spain switch
Carlos claims, in Brazil, "lots of people don't know about him [Costa] because he has been playing abroad for a long time. We need a player like him, but he will be able to demonstrate his quality better with Spain."
The 41-year-old Sivasspor manager hailed the Brazil national team's boss claiming that he "has managed to change the team’s mentality", which "now has more facets to its game."
However, the 2002 World Cup winner did express his surprise in Scolari's decision to exclude Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis from the World Cup, especially after enjoying a successful season under Diego Simeone, winning the Madrid side it's first La Liga title in 18 years.
"There is a massive amount of pressure. We have to win the World Cup, because coming second will be like coming last for Brazil."
The 2002 World Cup winner hailed Luiz Felipe Scolari for changing the mentality of the national squad
"This is a different team to when I was playing. This is a young and ambitious side. I would have included Filipe Luis, though. I was sure that Scolari was going to name him, but it's also true that Maxwell has more experience."
