The 'Tank' was permitted to play for his third club inside a year by the international governing body of soccer.
Uruguayan striker Santiago Silva will be the latest reinforcement of Argentine champions Boca Juniors it was confirmed on Friday. Despite the imminent transfer, the player will only be able to participate in the Copa Libertadores in the first half of 2012.

Daniel Angelici, the president of Boca, revealed to Deportivo Telam that "half an hour ago FIFA approved that Silva can play for Boca in the Copa Libertadores."

Silva, 31, has been linked with a move to Boca for several weeks now, but the club were hesitant to purchase the player because they were unsure as to whether FIFA law would permit him to play for a third club within the space of a year.

"We have already received the ok for the Copa Libertadores, because they evaluated former cases from [Javier] Mascherano and the other guy [Romario], but we are going for everything. In the worst of scenarios he will only play the Libertadores," explained Boca director Jose Requejo.

Silva, who has already agreed terms with Los Xeneizes, will arrive in Buenos Aires in the following hours to sign a three-year deal with the Argentine giants.

The Boca directors await another fax from FIFA, although they are pessimistic about the player's chances of being authorised for the Argentine Clausura championship. Silva played a key role as former club Velez Sarsfield won the Clausura championship last year.

"It's difficult, but we will still go for everything, that is why we are waiting for the fax," reiterated Requejo.

Without a place in Fiorentina, where he only played 13 matches and scored a single goal, Silva will join Julio Cesar Falcioni's squad. When under the directions of Falcioni in 2009, he helped Banfield win the Apertura championship.
