The Colombia international has finally opened up about claims that he is growing fat.

Real Madrid star James Rodriguez is having a difficult time in Spain.

The Colombia international was selected in Real Madrid’s first team when they drew against Real Betis last weekend. Before the surprise inclusion, the 24-year-old seemed to have fallen out of Zinedine Zidane’s favor after featuring in most games for Los Blancos as a substitute. Surprisingly, he did not seem to impress former Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez, and also started mostly from the bench.

The former AS Monaco man has faced sharp criticism from a section of the Spanish media, with some describing him as ‘fat.’ It is also alleged that the French tactician warned him about his lifestyle, fitness levels and lack of form earlier this month after taking over from Rafa Benitez. This comes just a few months after Rodriguez was involved in a police car chase on his way to training. He is said to be a big fan of cars, parties and luxuries, something that reportedly annoys Zidane.

Spanish publication Marca quotes him as saying:

"The talk (about being fat) really p***** me off.”

“My people know how I act and that I always seek to take good care of myself. I'm a professional.’’

“What's been said about me going out a lot at night is a lie. It really p***** me off that people doubt me and say I'm looking fat.“

About the police chase, he added:

"I wasn't going as fast as everyone says. I had music playing at a high volume [that's why he couldn't hear the sirens]. I'm not stupid; if I'd seen them I would have pulled over. I apologise - people make mistakes.’’

Reports from Spain suggest that his latest revelations have put Man United on high alert as they continue to monitor his situation at the Santiago Bernabeu. Although Los Blancos are highly unlikely to sell him due to the transfer ban imposed on them by FIFA, the Red Devils will not hesitate to bring him to Old Trafford if the opportunity presents itself.
