After a draw against Monaco, Valencia looks to add to Benfica's frustrations. A heavy defeat against Arsenal will not be easy to overcome for the Portuguese Champions.

With the Portuguese Super Cup just one week away, Jorge Jesus was hopeful that his squad would be better prepared. The truth is that after a humiliating 5-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal’s high-powered offense, the Portuguese Champions now go toe-to-toe with Valencia.

Bouncing back from such a heavy defeat will not be easy, but it will hopefully give the Portuguese side some added motivation.

Defensive issues were more than obvious for the Encarnados, as they got caught out on a number of occasions. And in the midfield, Talisca and Ruben Amorim were unable to stop a confident Arsenal squad. Stopping Yaya Sanogo was a big problem for Benfica, and on Sunday, they will be up against some familiar faces that could also be a handful.

Andre Gomes was a big part of Benfica’s successful campaign last year, but the Portuguese midfielder is now a Valencia player. Along with Gomes, Spanish international Rodrigo also made the move to Spain in a loan move. Both players’ sporting rights are owned by a third party company which is managed by Valencia’s owner, and he looks destined to lure Enzo Perez to the Mestalla as well.

Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo is also a familiar face for Jorge Jesus.

Nuno managed Rio Ave last season in the Portuguese League, and he unfortunately for him was defeated in the League Cup and Portuguese Cup final against Jorge Jesus and his Benfica squad. With both managers going against each other again, the Valencia manager would like to have the upper hand this time around.

It is likely that both starting squads will be much different than those that played on Saturday, allowing both managers to test some final things before the new campaign begins.
