It’s a clash between second and third in the English Premier League, as both the Gunners and the Citizens look to keep pace with Leicester.

No one really expected Leicester City to top the English Premier League heading into Christmas, but that is the reality in this season’s title race.

However, competition is stiff for the Foxes, with Arsenal and Manchester City trailing behind by two and three points, respectively, though one of those sides – or both – will fall further behind Claudio Ranieri’s boys with the two teams locking horns on Monday.

The Emirates Stadium will play hosts to the Citizens, with the Gunners coming off of their 2-0 triumph over Aston Villa on Sunday, whilst Manuel Pellegrini's boys will look to bring an end to their three away game goalless run.

Monday's game is an undeniable big-stake encounter, with both teams favoring their chances of sweeping Chelsea's crown, yet speaking ahead of the game, Arsene Wenger was quick to play down the importance of the Matchday 17 tie.

"No, we are in December, we are not fighting for the Premier League on Monday night," said the French manager.

"If we win, it will boost our chances of course to go to the top. It is a massive game and when you play at home you want to win because we ambitious and we feel over Christmas we play many home games and our strength and we have the chance to come out in a strong position after Christmas.”

Wenger doesn't believe Monday's game will weigh heavily on the outcome of the EPL race

Victory for the north London giants is achievable. Having initially suffered in the absence of Cazorla, Alexis Sanchez, and Francis Coquelin, Arsenal have now rediscovered their form with the return of Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott.

Le Prof's crew have scored 8 and conceded only one in their last 3 games in all competitions, and could even welcome back their Chilean superstar in time for Monday.

Man City as well could welcome back their South America ace, as striker Sergio Aguero is poised to make the trip to London, having missed his side's last 4 games.

Spanish playmaker David Silva is also likely to slot right back into the starting eleven, but it's the return of their Argentine forward that is most crucial, with his 7 goals in 9 games proving he is always a threat.
