Liverpool could welcome back their legendary midfielder Steven Gerard, but obviously, not as their player anymore.

Ex-Liverpool captain Steven Gerard has promised to return to his former club ‘sooner rather than later.’ The former England international, who plies his trade for MLS side LA Galaxy, spent 17 years at Anfield, and was part of the historic Champions League come-back win against AC Milan in Istanbul in 2005. It is still unclear whether he would return as a player, but considering his age, he could assume a managerial role at the club.

Although he openly admitted that he is ‘happy’ in California, he also added that he missed his friends and family back in England, as well as the Anfield atmosphere. During the fans’ question and answer session at LA Galaxy’s stadium, Gerard said:

''I will be going home at some point.

'I don't want to start any unneccessary rumours. I'm really happy where I am at the moment. But I'm sure somewhere down the line I will represent Liverpool football club.

''I miss my friends and my family. I miss a bit of cold weather.''

He added:

''I miss going to the games. I spent 35 years in Liverpool. Liverpool's my home, it always will be. This is my second home for a short period of time.

''Sooner rather than later I will return to where I'm comfortable with my people - and that's Liverpool.''

The midfield maestro was on target as his club secured a 4-2 win over New England Revolution last weekend.

During his 17-year-stay at the Merseyside club, Gerard won the FA Cup twice, the Football League Cup thrice, the FA Community Shield once, the UEFA Champions League once, the UEFA Cup once and the UEFA Super Cup once.

The Kops are preparing for what is expected to be a thrilling final against Spanish side Sevilla in the UEFA Europa League on May 18 at St. Jakob-Park in Basel, Switzerland.
