Barcelona and Real Madrid have both received punishment from UEFA following their involvement in heated incidents during last month’s Clasico at the Bernabeu in the European semis.
Real Madrid’s Jose Mourinho has been slapped with the biggest ban following his post-match comments after Barcelona defeat Los Blancos 2-0 in controversial fashion. The outspoken manager had asked for answers behind what he claimed looked like a “conspiracy” from UEFA—perhaps influenced by sponsors UNICEF—to have Barca receive special treatment to reach UEFA Champions League finals.

Jose Mourinho’s sentence is a 5-match ban in Europe. It includes the one-match ban he served after being sent off to the stands during El Classico III. Additionally, Jose Mourinho has been fined as much as €50,000 and the Spanish giants are already looking to appeal UEFA’s lengthy ban on the “Special One” as a statement on Realmadrid.com read:

“The UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body has announced to Real Madrid CF its decision to suspend coach Jose Mourinho for five games. The coach has already seen through the suspension of the first of these games. The suspension of the fifth and final game will be pending during the next three years.

“Real Madrid CF considers this resolution still suffers from the same defects found at the start of the disciplinary case, which made it impossible for our coach to use his right to defend himself, since the exact statements for which the disciplinary case was opened are still unknown.

“Real Madrid CF will appeal this decision before the UEFA Appeals Body.”

Besides this, Real Madrid would have to pay €20,000 on behalf of their fans who misbehaved by throwing missiles on the pitch at the end of the game. Pepe, meanwhile, is considered to be a free man after serving his one-match ban against Barcelona by missing El Clasico IV.

As for Barcelona, they’ve had second-choice goalkeeper Jose Pinto hit with a 3-match ban. Pinto is eventually going to miss the final of the UEFA Champions League against Manchester United on May 28.
