It’s not a movie, it’s a true story. Flamengo’s goalkeeper Bruno Fernandez, who was accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend in July 2010, has attempted suicide twice as his trial is yet to begin, reports claim.
Although the Rio de Janeiro State Public Safety department denied the news, a vast majority of the public still believe in the statement that was revealed by Bruno Fernandez’s lawyer Ercio Quaresma to local media. Bruno, who landed at Flamengo back in 2008 as a replacement for the injured number one shot-stopper Diego, quickly made an impact at the club.

Later, he was appointed as captain of the team following the retirement of Fabio Luciano who retired in May 2009. Unfortunately for Flamengo fans, the popularity of Bruno Fernandez transformed into unpopularity when he was accused of killing his former girlfriend a year later.

Initially, news broke out that his ex-mistress and actress Eliza Samudio had died after having disappeared.

Samudio was allegedly looking to prove that her baby was Bruno’s, and this issue is believed to have been the cause of her murder. Police revealed late in July that statements from Luiz Henrique Romao, Bruno Fernandez’s cousin, cellmate, and childhood friend, also gave information about Eliza Samudio’s death.

According to reports, the body of Bruno Fernandez’s ex-girlfriend was cut into parts. Some of those were fed to dogs while some got buried under concrete and are yet to be found by investigators.

Bruno Fernandez, who was formally charged with kidnapping, murder, hiding a body, corrupting minors, and forming a criminal gang in July, has his contract with Corinthians suspended. His trial is set to begin soon and he will have to answer questions about a charge previously placed by Eliza Samudio concerning claims that he had forced her to take abortion medications as he maltreated her.

Ahead of his trial, Lawyer Ercio Quaresma has revealed that his client has attempted suicide twice in custody already just as cousin and co-defendant Luiz Henrique Romao informed.

“Bruno ingested an excessive amount of medications,” Ercio Quaresma declared.

“He also had access to pieces of fabric which he could have used to hang himself.”

The Rio de Janeiro State Public Safety department denied the news as Brazilians keep debating about the misbehavior of professional athletes and the growing crime against women in the country.
