Bayern is coming into this match on the back of a rather surreal experience in Russia. As per the rules of UEFA, the players stood to the UEFA Champions League anthem and took the customary team picture. The stands, though, were empty. The players seemed to be rather out of sorts. Also, the pitch was not in perfect condition. The players fell multiple times. As a result of the conditions, the general play was poor. However, alternatively, it can be said that play was as good as possible in light of the empty stadium and the poor pitch.
Bayern dominated, giving away the odd chance at the other end. The sole goal of the match came midway through the first half when Mario Götze was fouled in the penalty area. Pep Guardiola called out Robert Lewandowski's name on the sideline. Instead of Lewandowski though, Bayern's most trusted taker, Thomas Müller, went up confidently. As soon as the ball left his feet, he slipped.
However, he had already done enough; the ball went past Igor Akinfeev and rattled the CSKA net. The three points at the end proved valuable, especially in light of City's draw against Roma. Bayern are one of only three teams to have won both their opening group fixtures in the Champions League and sit pretty atop their group currently.
They are also at the top of the Bundesliga. Despite the rather long injury list, Bayern are faring well. They are yet to lose a match this season. They played Köln and claimed a 0-2 win in their previous Bundesliga match. Their football on that day was very easy on the eye. The Bavarians next play Hannover. Hannover was playing well until their loss to Stuttgart last week. Stuttgart was not in good form coming into that match and Hannover's loss was a surprising one.
