De National League is het vijfde niveau in het Engelse voetbalsysteem en vormt de hoogste divisie van het National League System. Opgericht in 1979, stond de competitie eerder bekend als de Conference National.
De competitie bestaat uit een mix van professionele en semi-professionele teams. Clubs die deelnemen aan de National League kunnen meedoen aan de Engelse FA Cup. In totaal strijden 24 teams in een competitie met een dubbele round-robin opzet, wat betekent dat elke club tweemaal per seizoen tegen elke andere club speelt. De kampioen promoveert automatisch naar de EFL League Two, terwijl de slechtst presterende teams degraderen naar de National League North of de National League South.
