The potential transfer of Robin van Persie from Arsenal to Manchester United did not progress quietly as coach Alex Ferguson wished it would.
Arsenal captain Robin Van Persie somehow made himself available on the transfer market earlier this summer when he revealed that he will not renew his contract. Manchester City have emerged as hot favourites to land the Dutch star.

However, it appears local rivals Manchester United added themselves to the transfer race. This info broke out in the English media on Friday afternoon, forcing Alex Ferguson to confess later in the day.

“Obviously Arsenal have given out the fact that we've made a bid for him,” coach Alex Ferguson admitted on Friday via Manchester United’s official website.

“We try to keep business as close as possible to us until the moment we conclude a deal. There's no point talking about something that might not happen.”

Manchester United may not push matters further as Fergie seemed to explain when he concluded:

“There are other clubs interested in the player. We've shown an interest and that's where we're at at the moment.”

Alex Ferguson will turn his focus on Manchester United's pre-season friendly against Ajax Cape Town. The Red Devils will be looking to make it two wins out of two after edging past Amazulu earlier this week.

Ajax Cape Town vs Manchester United will air live on multiple channels across the world. The Score will broadcast the match live in Canada. In Portugal, it will be on Sport TV1 and MUTV.
