In the event of an injury or medical setback, tournament rules allow the coach to change a player with the tournament being played.

The 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup is just around the corner, and while U.S. fans may have been waiting for it with high hopes after their Nations League win over Mexico, coach Gregg Berhalter has seemingly turned the excitement down with the squad he named.

Earlier today, the USMNT unveiled their squad for the continental competition. But the real story here may be the names that are not on it, rather than talking about who made the cut.

Names such as Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Sergiño Dest, Tyler Adams, Gio Reyna, or even Jozy Altidore were not included on the roster, giving way to players such as Gyasi Zardes, Paul Arriola, Sebastian Lletget, and Brad Guzan, to name a few.

Perhaps the most interesting player to watch that will be playing the Gold Cup is Matthew Hoppe, who had an impressive breakthrough season at Schalke 04 and is expected to make his debut for the USMNT.

Without further ado, here is the USMNT's squad for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, where they will kick things off in Group B facing Canada, Martinique, and a team from the preliminary round yet to be determined.
