The German winger produced a moment of magic to inspire Die BVB to an important win over Chelsea.

Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi emerged as the star of Wednesday night's clash with Chelsea by scoring a sensation solo-goal inside the buzzing Signal Iduna Park. The 21-year-old utilised a devastating counter-attack to put the Blues on the back foot, inspiring his side to an important Round of 16 first-leg win in the UEFA Champions League.

In a highly-anticipated match between the two European giants, goals were at a premium as the creation of chances proved to be difficult. The first 45 minutes ended with neither of the clubs finding an answer to unlock two resilient defenses. Joao Felix shot over from a good position and hit the crossbar at one instant, while Reece James forced two fine saves from Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. On the contrary, both Julian Brandt and Jude Bellingham found themselves in good positions but were unable to use it to their side's advantage.

The script was almost the same for the second half until the game-defining moment arrived through Karim Adeyemi. After Chelsea hit the crossbar at the other end of the pitch, the young attacker picked up the ball in his own half to initiate a devastating Dortmund counter. Even more impressive is the fact that he did not need the assistance of his teammates, as he went one-on-one against Blues' record-signing Enzo Fernandez. The German international's trickery, acceleration and composure came in handy at the right moment, zooming past the Argentina before putting the ball in an empty net to make the scoreline 1-0 after rounding Kepa.

Meanwhile, Chelsea's efforts to secure an equalizer could not yield the desired results. In the latter part of the game, Emre Can stopped Kalidou Koulibaly's deflected strike from finding the net by sweeping the ball off the goalline. Shortly after, Enzo Fernandez's last-second long-range strike was also superbly stopped by Kobel, as Dortmund secured the win ahead of the second leg at Stamford Bridge on March 7.
