The Norwegian striker was on target as Dortmund secured a landmark win in Wednesday night's Champions League outing.

Borussia Dortmund secured a little bit of Champions League milestone for themselves by defeating Sevilla in Wednesday night's Round of 16 first leg encounter. The German outfit run away from the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium with a 3-2 win, registering its first-ever victory over a Spanish opponent in the competition in this century.

The night's encounter was not short of entertainment, as the first goal came in as early as the seventh minute through Suso's goal attempt which deflected off Mats Hummels. Not long after, Erling Haaland assisted Mahmoud Dahoud for his first-ever Champions League goal before taking matters into his own hands to fire Die BVB ahead.

The striker, who later admitted in a post-match interview that he was inspired by Kylian Mbappe's hat-trick against Barcelona on Tuesday, got his first goal of the night in the 27th minute before adding another in the 43rd minute. He, as a result, took his goal tally in the Champions League to 17 in just 13 appearances since his debut.

Luuk de Jong scored close to end of the game to give Sevilla a lifeline ahead of the second leg in Germany on March 9 and almost presented his side the opportunity to restore parity at the death through a penalty. However, a check by the video assistant referee revealed that the contact he made with Dortmund's Thomas Meunier did not merit an infringment.
