What started out as a rumor now has a real shot of becoming true. According to José Mourinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to return to Old Trafford for the second half of the season, when he's fully recovered from a knee surgery.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference before the team's EPL debut against West Ham, The Special One revealed that the Swedish ace still wants to help the team win a Premier League title, but he will do so once he's fit to play.
"I think he showed what he's got last year, but it's not enough for him. He wants to keep playing at the highest level, and we're negotiating the possibility of having him around for the second half of the season," Mourinho revealed.
Zlatan scored 28 goals across all competitions before he picked up a knee injury in a UEFA Europa League clash.
Although Manchester United could sign his a contract with the Swedish ace now, both parties are taking things slowly to allow the player to recover and see how much he can contribute to the team once he's fully recovered.
"He isn't fit to play yet. It's not a deal we have to sign immediately, we're not desperate to do it, and we know that Zlatan wants to keep playing in a top-notch league," Mourinho added.
If Ibrahimovic returns to Old Trafford, his first order of business will be to find a new jersey, as Romelu Lukaku has already been registered with the number used by the Swedish ace.
