The Stars and Stripes omitted some of their biggest players for the tournament, which kicks off on July 7.

The Gold Cup 2017 is right around the corner. The biennial tournament kicks off on July 7 and will continue until the 26th of the same month.

With 11 other teams competing, USA will be eager to lift the title on home soil. The five-time champions begin their campaign against Panama, as all hope lies in a youthful side.

With the World Cup a year from now, Bruce Arena has opted to leave out his nation’s biggest names. You won’t find Clint Dempsey, Jozy Altidore, nor Christian Pulisic with the Stars and Stripes this summer.

The BVB teenager’s admission is the biggest. At 18, he made a name for himself in Bundesliga by scoring three goals and assisting six in 29 league appearances – almost half of those outings came off the bench.

Best when positioned behind the only striker, the American is also a lethal winger. Pulisic, a target for Everton, will have to wait to shine for the national side.

Arena’s 23-man roster boasts an average of 16 caps, the second-lowest Gold Cup average by USA since 2000. The only other time USMNT had lesser experienced players – an average of nine caps in 2009 – they reached the final only to lose 5-0 to Mexico.

Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Atlanta United), Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Sean Johnson (New York City FC)

Defenders: Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Omar Gonzalez (Pachuca), Matt Hedges (FC Dallas), Eric Lichaj (Nottingham Forest), Matt Miazga (Chelsea), Justin Morrow (Toronto FC), Jorge Villafaña (Santos Laguna), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)

Midfielders: Kellyn Acosta (FC Dallas), Paul Arriola (Club Tijuana), Alejandro Bedoya (Philadelphia Union), Joe Corona (Club Tijuana), Dax McCarty (Chicago Fire), Cristian Roldan (Seattle Sounders), Kelyn Rowe (New England Revolution), Kenny Saief (KAA Gent), Gyasi Zardes (LA Galaxy)

Forwards: Juan Agudelo (New England Revolution), Dom Dwyer (Sporting Kansas City), Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders)
