Barcelona’s quest to find a new manager may be nearing an end. Ernesto Valverde, a man long linked with the Blaugrana’s hot seat, will be leaving his current position as Athletic Bilbao boss.
The Basque club made the announcement on late Tuesday that their tactician of four years will be departing the club. A press conference will be held on Wednesday by Valverde and club president Josu Urrutia.
Barca confirmed that on the 29th, five days after the aforementioned press conference, the Catalan giants will unveil their new manager. That man will replace the departing Luis Enrique.
Enrique announced in March that his third season at Camp Nou will be his last. Although his first season with Barcelona was a hit, winning the treble, his last was disappointing.
The Blaugrana crashed out of the Champions League in the quarter-final and lost their league title to Real Madrid, with the Copa del Rey being their only shot at silverware. Valverde, if chosen as Enrique’s replacement, will bring loads of experience to Camp Nou.
Valverde hasn’t been the only manager linked with the Barcelona job. Sampaoli’s name has been mentioned on several occasions alongside Ronald Koeman.
