Christian Benteke's found his place in football history today, as the Belgian striker needed less than ten seconds to score the fastest goal in any World Cup Qualifying match.
Crystal Palace's striker, who was handed the chance to start due to Romelu Lukaku's thigh injury, stole the ball away from Gibraltar's defenders, dribbled past one of them and sent the ball into the back of the net. All of this in just SEVEN seconds!
The previous record was held by San Marino's Davide Gualtieri, who managed to score an opening goal against England during a 1994 WC Qualifier held in Bologna. Gualtieri scored after eight seconds, but his all-time record was beaten today by the Belgian striker.
