“It was wonderful to work so closely with Canada Soccer this past summer on the FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP CANADA 2015™. We’re thrilled to extend our relationship by showcasing this key FIFA World Cup Qualifier for Canada’s Men’s National Team,” said Shawn Redmond, Vice-President of Programming, TSN. “All of us at TSN will join the rest of the country in cheering on Canada’s push to the 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP RUSSIA™.”

“Canada Soccer is extremely pleased to partner with TSN and bring exciting FIFA World Cup Qualifiers action to Canadians,” added Peter Montopoli, General Secretary, Canada Soccer.  “This next round of qualifiers will see Canada compete against some of the top teams in our confederation and we know that TSN will provide soccer fans with an exceptional broadcast as they did this summer during the FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP CANADA 2015™.”

Canada’s match with Honduras kicks off the semifinal round of CONCACAF qualifying for 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP RUSSIA™, which determines the teams from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean that will earn the right to compete for World Cup glory. Canada has been drawn into Group A alongside El Salvador, Honduras, and Mexico. The top two teams will move on to the final qualifying round, a round-robin format known as the Hex, beginning in November 2016.

The match is the first international soccer game to be played at Vancouver’s BC Place since the USA’s 5-2 victory over Japan in the FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP CANADA 2015™ final in July 2015.
