'Home advantage' takes a whole new meaning with hosts like Chile. Neutrals and Peru fans were obviously not happy with the performance of the referees in Monday night's Copa America semi-final match.

A couple of hours before kick-off, Chile’s national football team created for themselves a handful of new haters as their appeal against Jara’s ban was successfully heard. The three-game suspension he received for fingering the anus of Uruguay’s Cavani was reduced to two, leaving football fans stunned.

And that wasn’t all for the day. Five minutes had barely gone down the clock and tensions were already apparent. Arturo Vidal "calmed" down one of Perú's defenders after engaging in a one-on-one fight for the ball on the touchline. The Juventus star surprisingly escaped a booking. Lucky!

Tensions already in the Chile vs Peru game involving Vidal. Don't miss anything. Updates here: http://bit.ly/CHILExPERU

When the visitors seemed to be finding their feet, defender Carlos Zambrano was sent off rather harshly. He was clearing the ball but while doing so, he hit Charles Aranguiz on the lower side of his back, forcing the ref to make that controversial call: straight red!

Minutes after the red card was shown to Zambrano, Chile went ahead with a goal by Edu Vargas. However, in the build-up to the opener, one of Chile's players seemed to be offside while faking to go for the ball. The first half ended with the Peruvians 1-0 down and a man down as well.

Fans sure had their say about what they were watching

After the break, an own goal by Gary Medel leveled the game, but once again, Eduardo Vargas scored for the Chileans to give them a lead they would not squander again.  When the game went into stoppage time, Paolo Guerrero was brought down inside Chile's box, raising a few eyebrows in the process. Penalty or not?

And so it ended 2-1 with Eduardo Vargas claiming a brace and firing Chile into the final where they will have to face Paraguay or Lionel Messi's Argentina.

Chile reach the Copa America 2015 Final! Don't be surprised if big clubs line up to sign brace hero Eduardo Vargas!Next up: http://bit.ly/ARGxPARsemis

Peru's fans were still proud of their team's performance, while the Chileans denied any help from the ref and celebrated their return to a Copa América final.

"Proud of 'my' Perú!!! We were 10 against 11 and against the refs! Hold your head up high!! Go Perú!!"
