As Denmark prepare to take on Serbia, fans will see a match involving two teams of contrasting fortunes. The Rød-Hvide (Red White) are currently in second place behind Portugal with seven points, but have the Albanians breathing down their necks as they hope for the Scandinavians, who boast a better goal differential to somehow slip-up. Meanwhile, the Orlovi have earned just one point from what has been a miserable campaign so far for the Balkan side as they chase their first ever EURO participation since becoming an independent nation.
The reverse fixture between the two teams last fall ended as a 3-1 win in favour of the Danes, as a brace from often-maligned striker Nicklas Bendtner and a solitary effort from Simon Kjaer was enough to nullify Zoran Tosic's early strike. Denmark will be coming into this game fresh off a 2-1 win over Montenegro in a warm-up friendly and coach Morten Olsen will be feeling confident as he has a pretty-much full-strength side available for selection.
On the opposite side of the pitch, Serbia easily cruised to a confidence-boosting 4-1 result against Azerbaijan in their latest friendly match, but will have to make do without Dusan Tadic and Dusko Tosic due to injury. Consequently, manager Radovan Curcic will again have to tinker with his formation as the team, despite the presence of some quality players within their squad, have yet to find that right winning combination and ability to perform well as a unit.
Interestingly, Serbia do have a tendency to do solidly in their friendlies, with a win over Greece and a draw against France, but struggle to replicate this kind of showing when it comes to actual competitive fixtures. With just a handful of games remaining, time is running out for Chelsea stars Branislav Ivanovic and Nemanja Matic if they want to help their team appear in their first major international tournament since the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
