Brazil's trio, composed of midfielder Andressa and forwards Cristiane and Marta, proved too hot for South Korea to handle on Matchday 1 of the FIFA Women's World Cup in Group E.

Supporters brought out their drums and roared on top of their voices to add fire to what was arguably the most anticipated fixture in the first round at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. It started off as a tight contest but the Brazilians' fancy footwork quickly amazed the crowd and injected confidence in the players in return. Then came Formiga with a formidable goal as she beat the defence with pace to open the scoring inside the 32nd minute.

With this strike, the 37-year-old star became the oldest player to score at a FIFA Women's World Cup. Speaking to LiveSoccerTV about her ambitions and recipe to remain fit, Best Player of the Match Formiga explained:

"I train a lot. I'm very dedicated about everything related to my football.

"I hold this dream of winning the World Cup with Brazil. It's something we are working hard to achieve. I need to be in top shape to help the team achieve this target."

Twenty minutes after Formiga's opening goal, excluding the half-time break, South Korea were hit with what they had probably feared the most: a penalty decision going in Brazil's favour. It happened as goalscorer Formiga fell to the ground. Swiss referee Esther Staubli pointed to the spot, offering Marta a chance to open her account.

Keeping her cool, she sent the ball to the left while goalkeeper Kim Jungmi went the wrong way. At 2-0, one would have thought that the Koreans would throw the towel. On the contrary, they increased their efforts and played more aggressively to contain Brazil's players. However, they were left to rue their numerous misses in front of goal.

With the sort of performance that the Brazilians put in on Tuesday night, fans can expect them to only get better as the competition continues.

South Korea, meanwhile, will want to build on their determination to get back on track against Spain before facing brave Costa Rica in their final group game. Coach Yoon Dukyeo conceded defeat, telling LiveSoccerTV:

"Well, we did our best. We lost and it's very regrettable but Brazil deserved to win because they applied very good techniques.

"We cannot back down. We have two games remaining. We will of course do our very best."
