Australia will seek their first continental title as they prepare for the all important Asian Cup Final. What makes the occasion even more memorable is the fact that the Socceroos will have the opportunity to lift the title on home soil. Manager Ange Postecoglou has hailed this as a once in a lifetime opportunity and has appealed for the home fans to get behind the team.
"It's a massive game. We made the final four years ago as well which was great for our nation but we've now been in Asia for a little while and we haven't won anything in the men's game yet," Postecoglou said.
"This gives us an opportunity at a national level anyway to achieve something. It will be a big game, a sold out final, in a major tournament and we're not going to host another one in our lifetime which is why it's important for us.
"It's been an outstanding tournament and great for our game and I think it would have put a dampener on it if we weren't in the final.
"For us to be there is a great way to end up what's going to be a fantastic tournament. You can always dream, if we win it, it will be one of the biggest games ever for our code and our country.
"But we've still got some steps to go first."
South Korea on the other hand will have personal targets to achieve as well, having not won the Asian Cup since its first two editions in 1956 and 1960. They made it to the final of the competition for the first time in 27 years after scoring a 2-0 win over Iraq and they will be hoping they can once again return to the Zenith of Asian football.
The Reds will be in a buoyant mood having already beaten their counterparts on Sunday earlier in the competition. South Korea emerged victorious when the two sides met at the Suncorp Stadium in the final game of the group stages with a solitary goal from Jung-Hyub Lee settling the tie.
Whereas South Korea have recorded victory in all of their last five matches it is their defensive record which has caught everyone's attention. The Taegeuk Warriors have not conceded a single goal through the course of the competition and it will be a remarkable achievement should they go the entire tournament without having a goal against them.
