The unusual gesture could see the Portuguese footballer become the first active player to have a stadium named after him in history.

Can you imagine watching Cristiano Ronaldo play...at Cristiano Ronaldo Stadium?

The possibility of watching who has been deemed as the greatest Portuguese footballer of all time playing a game at a stadium named after him grew today, as a Primeira Liga side is considering to sell the rights of their stadium's name to honor the footballer.

The team in question is none other than CR7's boyhood club, Sporting Lisbon, who's company is interested in funding a potential change of name for the venue, according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport. The report states that one of the first companies interested in funding the stadium's change of name is CR7's brand, which would help both the team's and the footballer's finances.

CR7 has always referred to Sporting as his favorite team in the world, and the deal would give the Lions a chance to add some cash to their bank while paying tribute to one of their most illustrious names in history.

The Italian newspaper even added that three names are being considered by Sporting execs to materialize the deal: CR7 Arena, Cristiano Ronaldo Stadium and Alvalade CR7 Stadium. Further details on this matter could be revealed in the next couple of days.
