CR7 to appear in front of Spain's tax authorities

Details of Cristiano Ronaldo's court appearance in Spain revealed

January 21, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
The Portuguese footballer will be given the same treatment as Lionel Messi during Tuesday's hearing.

The day for Cristiano Ronaldo to appear in front of a Spanish tax court has finally come, and Spanish authorities have given a hint on how things will be going down for the Portuguese footballer.

Juventus' top scorer this season will have to appear in front of court since a motion to see him attend the hearing via a videoconference was denied by the judge. Added to that, Cristiano's attorneys were trying to see their client enter the building via the parking lot, which would have allowed him to escape any questions from the media.

That motion was also denied by the judge, which means that CR7 will make it to the court in the very same way in which Lionel Messi made his way into the courthouse.

The Portuguese star is expected to plead guilty of four tax fraud charges against him which took place from 2011 to 2014. In a prior meeting, Cristiano Ronaldo had denied any wrongdoing, but his attorneys negotiated a suspended two-year sentence following these charges once he pays the Spanish IRS $21.6 million.

Spanish authorities have agreed to let CR7 go without serving time in jail, as is customary for all offenders. Since this is the first felony committed by the Portuguese ace, he will be able to walk free once his hearing comes to an end.
