One coach decided to intercept a pass to prevent his team from conceding a 90th-minute winner during a regional first division match in Spain.

Typically, a regional first division match in Spain would not garner much attention worldwide. However, a clash between Villanueva del Pardillo and Colmenar Viejo on Sunday has now made it to the headlines after an assistant coach shockingly entered the pitch to stop a counter-attack with only one minute of normal time left!

Villanueva del Pardillo were the home side in this tie, but despite that, the hosts went 1-0 down against their Madrid rivals. However, they would eventually get the equalizer in the 83rd minute and in the 89th minute, the hosts found themselves in a promising counter-attack that could have resulted in the winning goal.

Unfortunately, a coach from the away side stepped onto the pitch and intercepted a pass headed for an opposing attacker bursting down the wing in order to prevent his team from conceding late in the game. This moved sparked utter chaos, and for obvious reasons, as the striker he robbed the ball off shoved the coach in the back while the referee wasted no time in showing the assistant a straight red card.

Nonetheless, a brawl broke out on the touchline as the Villanueva del Pardillo players and staff were furious after being denied a potential 90th-minute winner. Check out the incident in the video below.

The home side took to Twitter after the final whistle to express their anger, tweeting: "Great game which was tarnished by the actions of the rival manager which we consider contrary to fair play and the values of football.'

The club would go on to issue a correction, clarifying that it was an assistant coach responsible for this unacceptable behavior, writing: "The action in question was not carried out by the manager, but by the assistant manager. He was red-carded for running onto the pitch to stop a counter-attack."

Colmenar Viejo, the club in question, quickly issued a public apology for the action of their coach. It remains unknown what will happen to that assistant but players and fans alike will never want to see such an anti-sporting behavior repeated.
