Live Soccer TV explains why the FA Cup clash with Manchester United could play a huge role in Manchester City's development as a football club.
Ever since the rich Arabians took over the helm at Eastlands, attention in Manchester has been increasing dramatically with the so called 'rise' of another local club alongside the already established Manchester United. From the moment Robinho was brought in on deadline day, it was pretty obvious that they really meant serious business at City.

Three years on now, City have already sacked mark Hughes with Roberto Mancini being in charge for the last 15 months and even Robinho has finally left the club. However, times have been positive for the long-suffering City fans in recent times.

The appointment of Roberto Mancini was greeted with mixed response by the fans with some feeling the Italian was not competent enough to succeed in the demanding aspects of the English Premier League. Anyhow, improvements have been clearly visible within the team and fans have started to back the Italian severely.

However, as much as Mancini would love to brag about the drastic changes in fortune that he has brought to the team, he must unequivocally be mindful of the expectations being placed upon him. The project at City is definitely not one designed to guarantee immediate success but trophies are ultimately part of the simple targets at Eastlands.

The Europa League was the best shot he had to impress his demanding owners but Mancini ultimately failed to guide his team beyond Dynamo Kyiv in the last 16 round. That defeat condemns Mancini to a difficult position with the on-going battle for the Champions League still under severe heat.

Although Champions League qualification has always been the main agenda of this season, a spot in Europe's most coveted competition is not guaranteed yet though- a status that makes the FA Cup an important pathway indeed.

If in case City fail to qualify for the Champions League, the season will categorically be regarded as a dismal failure. In that case, Roberto Mancini can certainly expect some very harsh decision to be coming his way in the summer.

Therefore, winning the FA Cup will not only lessen the burden on the Italian's shoulders, but it will also open up the dusty trophy cabinet at Eastlands.

Even the former Italian coach was aware of the importance of winning a first trophy with the club.

He said: "The first trophy is the hardest one to win. It doesn't depend on the money you spend. Every top club should spend money.

"But it is important to win a title. For this I think if we go into the final, we can change everything."

Enough said though, Mancini only has a simple task to carry out ahead of tomorrow's clash with the league leaders. Inspire the team to be positive as they head into the clash because United haven't been extremely convincing this season. And one surprise early goal might give City the much needed upper hand on their road in search of glory.
