The midfielder is seen as the Blaugrana's main transfer target, but Los Blancos won't let them have their man without a fight.

Barcelona's attempt to land Frenkie De Jong is under threat, according to Don Balon, as Real Madrid look to rival the Catalan giant. This comes as the race to land the highly-rated midfielder intensifies.

The Dutchman is considered to be one of the hottest prospects in football at the moment, as he continues to shine in the Eredivisie. His skills and technical ability have grabbed the attention of some of Europe's biggest clubs, as a transfer battle looks set to commence for the Ajax starlet.

The Blaugrana is considered the favorite to land the 21-year-old, with the defending Spanish champion being ready to snub a move for Paul Pogba in order to finance a move for De Jong. However, Los Blancos will not let that happen without a fight.

The Bernabeu hierarchy is reportedly preparing a $93M offer for the Dutchman to beat out the competition when the transfer window re-opens. However, Real Madrid isn't Barcelona's only competition.

Man United has also been linked with the Ajax ace while Man City is also heavily tipped to make an official bid for the midfielder. Regardless, as the way things stand, Barcelona appears to hold a slight advantage over the others.

According to Manchester Evening News, the player dreams about one day playing at Camp Nou. The reason for this is his desire to share a dressing room with Lionel Messi, saying

"If you end up in a club of a higher level, you will play with world-class players anyway.

"But I would really like to play with Messi someday.

"Of course, I would like to play with him. He's already 31, so I have to hurry up."

So far, De Jong has helped Ajax top their Champions League group ahead of Bayern Munich. In their domestic league, the Dutch side sit in second spot, five points behind first-place PSV.
