Trying to make football look like a life-changing experience is not a good thing, and Mehdi Benatia's frustration over the late penalty kick awarded to Real Madrid forced him to take an unexpected path.
Speaking in an interview, the Moroccan player added controversy to Michael Oliver's final ruling in the game between the Old Lady and Los Blancos, and blamed Lucas Vázquez for taking a dive that fooled the ref.
"He did his job, he took a dive and the ref fell for it. I've seen quite a few games in my life and played a lot, and you can't give a penalty like that one after 93 minutes. I didn't push him, if I touched him, I did so with my thigh, and that's part of the game. It was never my intention to shove him or annoy him," Benatia said.
After revealing how that action unfolded, Benatia made a cringe-worthy comparison that some may not take that well.
"It's hard, you feel like if you had just been raped, just like Bayern last year. It's always the same thing. Real Madrid is a great team, they don't need help of this sort. Everyone knows the game should have gone to extra time and there, the best team should have won," Benatia concluded.
