At the beginning of the 2015-16 English Premier League season, none could have predicted Leicester City lifting the league crown. However, this once far-fetched scenario now borders on reality, as the Foxes need only a win over Manchester United to clinch the title.
Claudio Ranieri will guide his boys to Old Trafford on Sunday with the full intent and desire to claim a historic victory over the Red Devils, as a Vardy-less Leicester look to wrap up the title race with two games to spare.
Furthermore, Ranieri could stand to earn more from winning the Premier League than the fame, glory, and legendary status that is almost guaranteed. According to the Daily Mail, the Italian tactician will pocket in excess of £5m in bonus upon securing the title.
The 64-year-old already earns £1.5m in his three-year contract with the Foxes, a deal with several clauses intended to make Ranieri’s sacking “straight-forward and cost effective” given that his first priority was to keep the King Power Stadium side afloat in the top-flight.
Nonetheless, the Tinkerman made sure to include big incentive packages in his deal for several milestones, from securing European football – be it the Europa League or the more prestigious Champions League – to winning the domestic league.
Furthermore, lifting the league crown will also guarantee Ranieri a separate bonus, as he is entitled to £100,000 for every end-of-season position from 17th and above, which translates into £1.7m for a first-place finish.
Ranieri stands to earn a huge profit from Leicester's success; however, none can deny he deserves it, having led the club tipped for the drop to the summit of English football on a tight budget, ahead of the likes of Man City, Arsenal, Man United, Chelsea, and Spurs.
