Russian club CSKA Moscow have been ordered to play their next three UEFA Champions League matches behind closed doors, because of their fans racist behavior in the club's first match of this UCL edition against Roma. UEFA also forbid the club to sell tickets to their supporters in any match they play away from Khimki Arena.
UEFA officials stated the club had been banned after the incidents surrounding their September 17 match against Roma, which ended with a 5-1 victory for the Italian side. CSKA's supporters threw flares on the pitch, fought with police officers in the stands and revealed a racist insult in a banner. Besides the three game ban, the Russian club has been fined with 200,000 euros.
This is not the first incident in which CSKA's fans have been involved. Last year, during their match against English Champion Manchester City, Russian fans made racist chants against Yaya Toure, ending in a partial closure of their stadium. The repeated behavior led to the current measures.
CSKA still has to host Manchester City on October 21 and AS Roma on November 5th.
