The Paraguayan striker will earn more money than Brazilian midfielders Ronaldinho and Angel Reyna, who were the highest paid players last season.

Desperate to win a league championship for the first time in 17 years, Mexican club Cruz Azul signed Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz. With this new deal, Santa Cruz will become the highest paid player in the Mexican league, surpassing such players like Ronaldinho.

Having played in the Club World Cup, Cruz Azul expect to improve their statistics regarding goals scored, given that during the last tournament the team was only able to score sixteen goals in seventeen matches, being eliminated from the playoffs. Santa Cruz takes on this challenge with the best intentions, hoping his recent performances with Malaga can be repeated with the club known as "La Maquina".

"The team is living under a circumstance where they have not been able to win a championship recently, and that's why I took this challenge. I want to be crowned champion one more time, and I think we can give fans what they have wanted for a very long time," Santa Cruz told the press.

The striker will return to Paraguay for the holidays and will be joining his team's preseason on January 2, just a week before the Clausura 2015 starts.
