Superligaen geschiedenis, opzet, organisatie, media-aandacht
De Deense Superliga is de hoogste voetbalcompetitie in Denemarken. Deze werd opgericht in 1991 als vervanging voor de Deense Eerste Divisie. De competitie begon met tien teams die streden om de titel, maar dat aantal is sindsdien aangepast naar veertien of twaalf deelnemende clubs, wat het competitieformat zo nu en dan heeft veranderd.
De competitie werkt met een systeem van promotie en degradatie en heeft een ander format dan de grote Europese competities. Teams spelen 22 reguliere wedstrijden voordat ze worden verdeeld in twee groepen. De beste zes teams strijden om het kampioenschap en de Europese competitieplaatsen, terwijl de teams in de onderste helft van de ranglijst deelnemen aan een kwalificatieronde, waarin bepaald wordt welke twee teams degraderen voor het komende seizoen.
Een aantal van de meest opvallende teams uit de Deense Superliga komt uit de stad Kopenhagen. Aanvankelijk domineerde KB het Deense voetbal tot hun fusie met FC Kopenhagen, een van de meest succesvolle clubs van het land tot nu toe. Laatstgenoemde heeft veel lof gekregen in Europa vanwege hun continue aanwezigheid in verschillende edities van de UEFA Champions League.
De Deense competitie is behoorlijk populair geworden in Europa en andere landen, dankzij de uitzendrechtenovereenkomst met de Viaplay Group, waardoor de competitie beschikbaar is voor fans in het VK en Denemarken op tv (via TV3 Sport) en online (op Viaplay). In andere landen, zoals de Verenigde Staten, kunnen wedstrijden van de competitie worden gestreamd op OneFootball.
