About

ONE History, Coverage, Features

One is a German free-to-air television channel owned and operated by the public broadcasting service ARD. It was originally launched as EinsFestival in 1997, but it was later rebranded simply as One on September 3, 2016.

One is considered to be an entertainment channel, with its variety of shows aimed at a target audience between 30 and 49 years of age. Most of its content has already been shown on other ARD channels, including television films, drama series, documentaries, magazines, reports, pop and rock music shows, and more.

Speaking about sports, One has been used in the past as an overflow channel to cover events such as the Summer Olympics in 2004, the 2008 UEFA Euro, and the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The two football competitions mentioned above saw One covering live games and providing overflow coverage of such events.

The channel is available on Germany’s free-to-air terrestrial feed, but several pay-tv carriers have added it to their grid, both on HD and SD format.
