About
BandSports history, coverage, features
BandSports is a pay-tv channel from Brazil, which is owned and operated by the Bandeirantes Communication Group. It was launched on May 13, 2002, to fill the void left by another sports television channel called PSN. It is part of the Band network, frequently using some of their journalists to cover sports events.
Unlike many channels focused on sports, BandSports stands out by the colloquial approach taken by those in charge of delivering news to their audience. The channel has also made a name for itself thanks to the diversity of topics available on their programming, which has included football, tennis, volleyball, motorsports, boxing, basketball, rugby, and more. The channel has also been able to cover different editions of the Olympic Games.
Speaking about football, BandSports has covered international leagues such as the Italian Serie A and the Russian Premier League. When it comes to international club tournaments, the channel has covered different editions of the Copa Libertadores. As for national team football, BandSports has aired FIFA World Cup games in 2006, 2010, and for the 2014 edition held over Brazilian soil.
BandSports started out airing its content on a Standard Definition feed. Nevertheless, the channel worked on an HD feed that was available for their 2014 FIFA World Cup coverage. Since then, all of the channel’s content has been aired with that format.
