FC Bayern München has been crowned Germans champions for a 23rd time and Bundesliga champions for a 22nd time

Jupp Heynckes has guided new league champions Bayern Munich to break no less than 10 records in the history of the German Bundesliga. This season, the club from Bavaria has topped the Bundesliga from the first match day and will remain top until the last match day. They have broken many records and are set to break more. Here is a compilation of some of the records they have broken and some which are within their reach:

1. The Earliest Champions

Bayern is the first team to be crowned with six remaining games. They are also the earliest champion in terms of the date of the calendar. Köln landed the first Bundesliga title on 18th April 1964. Bayern has broken their own records of winning the Championship with four games to play in the 72/73 and 02/03 seasons.

2. The Largest Number of Consecutive Wins in a Single Season

In 2013, as unbelievable as this might sound, Bayern has not dropped a point in a single Bundesliga game. They have won 11 games on the trot. No other team has achieved this feat in Bundesliga history.

3. The Largest Number of Consecutive Wins at the Beginning of a Season

Bayern won eight games on the trot until they ran into a counterattacking Leverkusen side on Match-day Nine. They broke a record they, Kaiserslautern and Mainz held jointly previously, which had stood at seven games.

4. The Largest Number of Away Points in a Single Season

Bayern has already broken the record; before Borussia Dortmund held the record with a total of 37 away points last season. Bayern already has 40 away points. The record tally could go up to as high as 49 points if Bayern wins their remaining three away fixtures. The tally achievable in an 18 team league in a single season is 51.

5. Fewest Away Defeats

Bayern has not lost even a single game away from home this season. In 14 away fixtures, they have won 13 and drawn one. Neighbors Nürnberg picked up that single point when they caught a slightly lackadaisical Bayern off guard. However, they can only match this record rather than break it; the Bayern of 86/87 did not lose a single match away from home either.

6. Highest Winning Margin

The current difference between first placed Bayern and second placed Borussia Dortmund is 20 points. If this difference was to last till the end of the season, the margin would break the previous record of the 16 point difference between first and second in 02/03. Unsurprisingly, it is Bayern who holds that record.

7. Highest Points Tally

The highest points tally accumulated by any team in the history of the league is 81. Borussia Dortmund set that record last season. Bayern can equal that record if they draw all their remaining six fixtures or win at least two. They already have 75 points in the bag; hence, the Bavarians can reach a total of 93!

8. Largest Goal Difference

Bayern’s current goal difference +66. If they can maintain this goal difference or better it, they will break the all time record for the best goal difference in the history of the Bundesliga. The current record is +64, held by one of the greatest if not the greatest Bayern team of all time, in 72/73.

9. Fewest goals conceded

Bayern has conceded only 13 goals this season. They are well on course to break the record for the fewest goals conceded in a single season. The record is 21, set in 2007/08 under Jürgen Klinsmann and funnily enough, Jupp Heynckes.

10. Largest Number of Wins

In a single season, the tally stands at 25. Bayern set it in the 72/73 season; Borussia Dortmund replicated it in the 12/13 season. Bayern already has 24 wins to their name this season. This record might fall by Match day 34.

This has been a truly great season for FC Bayern München, even by their great standards. The 17 Bundesliga teams below them can only raise their hats to this great side, which has broken and is set to break many records set down the years in the wonderful Bundesliga.
