Probably no-one saw this transfer deal coming, but the reality is now clear for all to see. Manchester City have just added Owen Hargreaves to their midfielders list.
The news broke out on Tuesday night. West Bromwich Albion had initially approached Hargreaves but Manchester City’s “sudden” interest in the player proved to be THE great opportunity. The 30-year-old English man could end his career on a high as fellow countryman Joe Hart hopes.

“He has struggled a bit since he came to Manchester United. But that is not down to ability, just his fitness,” Hart stated according to The Sun.

“If he can get himself fit it can only be a positive. He was a very important England player. If he can get back to that form, obviously he would be an asset.”

Owen Hargreaves had a long spell in Germany where he played for Bayern Munich II before joining the senior Bayern team. In 2007, the English midfielder signed for Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United. He proved to be influential in midfield but unfortunate injuries jeopardized his 3-year career at Old Trafford.

Following his release in July 2011, Owen Hargreaves became a free agent. How much could his switch to city rivals Manchester City mean to both him as an individual and his new club as revolutionaries?
