Pep Guardiola has won two UEFA Champions League titles. He was hired to do so at Bayern München but he failed miserably, and now, he seemed to try and take off the pressure from his men ahead of their crunch quarterfinal tie against Tottenham.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference, Guardiola revealed the "real" reason why he joined Manchester City. This is where fans were left baffled, as the former Barcelona tactician dismissed his need to win a third UEFA Champions League trophy, which would be the first for Manchester City.
"I didn't come here to win the Champions League. I came here to make this team play the way it has played for the past 20 months. That's why I'm here," Guardiola said.
Then, the tactician downplayed his previous statement by adding his boss' words regarding how many European titles he needs to win with the club.
"He told me I needed to win three Champions League in a row. I love those challenges and there's nothing that I have wished more in my life, but in football you lose more than you win, so we need to go out there and give our best version," the coach added.
Guardiola named Oleksandr Zinchenko as the only unavailable player for Wednesday's tie. Manchester City needs to beat Tottenham by a two-goal margin in order to make it to the next stage of the UEFA Champions League.
