UEFA has begun investigation into comments made by Neymar Jr. about officiating following Paris Saint-Germain's shock defeat to Manchester United. The 27-year-old Brazilian took to Instagram to air his reservations after his side failed to progress to the quarter-finals.
Despite winning 2-0 at Old Trafford in the first leg, PSG saw Manchester United complete a remontada after the English club ran away with a 3-1 win at Parc des Princes in the second leg. The Red Devils' historic feat was aided by a controversial stoppage-time spot-kick where Presnel Kimpembe appeared to have handled the ball in his penalty box.
With PSG crashing out as a result, Neymar Jr. took to Instagram to slam VAR officials who approved the penalty decision upon review with foul language. In his post, the Brazilian superstar - who did not feature in the encounter as a result of a foot injury - said: "This is a disgrace. They put four people that know nothing about football in charge of looking at the replay for VAR.
"There is no penalty. How can it be a handball when it hits his back! Go f*** yourselves!"
On Wednesday, UEFA revealed that it has "appointed an ethics and disciplinary Inspector to conduct an investigation" of Neymar Jr.'s social media comments. The finding and sanction of the UEFA disciplinary committee could be revealed at its meeting on March 28.
