Borussia Monchengladbach boss vows to be merciless against Messi-less Barcelona

Borussia Monchengladbach boss Andre Schubert has promised to ‘fight’ Barcelona when the two sides meet for their Champions League clash on Wednesday. The German side opened their UCL account on the wrong footing, having gone down 4-0 to Manchester City. Barca, on the other hand, humiliated Scottish giants Celtic 7-0 and they have been tipped to slay Monchengladbach on Wednesday.

But speaking during a pre-match presser, Schubert revealed that his men were not scared of the ‘Messi-less’ Barca, and that they would approach the math with energy and a fighting spirit. He told reporters:

 “There is no reason to be awestruck. We will approach the game with energy, joy and a willingness to fight, 

“We’d liked to have seen Lionel Messi at Borussia Park,

“We always like to play against very, very good teams, but the best player in the world will be missing.’’

He added:

“Barcelona are very dangerous going forward. We have to be brave enough to play our own football against this team.

“We want to be true to our own style, but also react well tactically.’’

Lionel Messi is set to miss this clash after picking up an injury during their La Liga clash with Atletico Madrid last Wednesday. The 29-year-old will be sidelined for six matches and the Spanish giants will now have to rely on Neymar, Suarez and Arda Turan in the hunt for goals. 

Barcelona sit at the top of Group C with three points, same as Manchester City, who have a weaker goal difference. Gladbach sit third with no points while Celtic seal the group after the heavy defeat to Luis Enrique’s men.
