The Red Dragons bagged their first victory in their opening game against Slovakia with a 2-1 win for Bale and Co. They later went head-to-head with neighbors England in a thrilling match, but failed to secure any points that evening. However, on Monday, the debutants thrashed Russia 3-0 to claim first place in Group B with England and Slovakia lurking behind them.
After Wales' demolition of Leonid Slutsky's men in Toulouse, Gareth Bale hailed his side, calling it 'best performance I've been involved in.'
The Real Madrid striker sentenced the game scoring a brilliant goal in the 67th minute to help his team progress to the knockout phase of UEFA Euro 2016.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Bale praised his team saying:
"We knew everything was on this game, it was in our own hands, and we said to go out there and have no regrets.
"The performance was probably the best I have been involved in, and what a support.
"To top the group, what more can you ask? The fans here, the fans at home, we want to thank them very much. It is a dream for all of us.
"We said we did not come here to just make up the numbers, we wanted to put a real effort in and to win the group, you can't do any more than that, so now we will look forwards to whomever we get next."
