Real Madrid and FC Barcelona lock horns at the Santiago Bernabeu this Sunday in the first leg of the Supercopa de España, and the goalkeeper has nothing to think of other than triumphing.
Barca won the contest last year for the second time in a row after beating Sevilla 4-0 at the Estadio Camp Nou to overturn a 3-1 defeat from the first leg. The previous edition saw them humiliate Athletic Bilbao 5-1 on aggregate, as they built a memorable year on top of the football world.

Their upcoming match in the Supercopa against Real Madrid might not enable them to score another 5 goals in a space of roughly 180 minutes. But regardless of Los Clasicos’ difficulty, Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes prefers to look at the challenges optimistically.

“(The Supercup) is a vital title for us,” he was quoted saying by the club’s official website. “It is the first official trophy of the season and, of course, we want it.”

He added that the Catalans were poised to “go for it”, explaining that all that mattered to him was to see his team successfully defend their title.
