The latest iteration of the Premier League's curtain raiser will kick off this Saturday, August 7th, with Leicester City taking on Manchester City.

Preview: Leicester City vs Manchester City

The FA Community Shield, known as the annual curtain-raiser to the Premier League season will get under way this Saturday, August 7th. The latest installment of the one-off annual contest will feature Leicester City and Manchester City, with both sides eager to kick off their respective campaigns with some silverware. The Foxes secured their spot here by winning their first ever FA Cup after beating Chelsea 1-0 in the final, while Manchester City cantered to the Premier League title, leaving then-reigning champions Liverpool in their wake and topping the charts ahead of city rivals Manchester United by a whopping 12 points.

Leicester City only narrowly missed out on a spot in the Champions League following a 4-2 loss to Tottenham on the final matchday. Brendan Rodger's men will have an opportunity to try their luck in the Europa League as Leicester look to try to fully assert themselves on the European stage. So far, their pre-season has produced mixed results, with losses to Burton Albion and Wycombe Wanderers last month before concluding July with a three-all draw against Queens Park Rangers. The Foxes have seen some improvement since, and will come into this match having earned a well-deserved 3-2 win over Spanish outfit Villarreal.

But will that be enough to take down Manchester City? Pep Guardiola's men notably won the Premier League title with plenty of breathing room last season. And although the Cityzens were beaten in the Champions League final 1-0 thanks to a goal from Chelsea's mega money signing Kai Havertz, they certainly have done enough to prove they're a top side both domestically and on the continent. They've signaled their intent to beef up their already formidable squad, spending a whopping $140 million (£100 million) on Aston Villa star Jack Grealish.

According to some reports, the English international could make his debut in Saturday's game, but that remains to be seen. Man City have been in imperious form so far during their pre-season games, winning all three ties against Preston North End, Barnsley, and Blackpool prior to this upcoming tie.
