Preview

The UEFA Champions League is back! Following a two-month break, everyone's favorite continental competition returns this midweek, with the round of 16 kicking off this Tuesday. Two fixtures usher in the knockout stage, with the subject of this preview being Manchester City's showdown with Copenhagen, scheduled for 3 p.m. ET at Parken Stadium.

Manchester City's title defense has been going well so far. The Cityzens were one of only two teams to complete the group stage with a perfect record, the other being Real Madrid, winning all six of their matches this season. This includes crucial home and away victories over RB Leipzig, who finished second in the group.

Meanwhile, Guardiola's men are also picking up pace in their Premier League title defense, with their 2-0 victory over Everton during the weekend stretching their domestic winning streak to six games and unbeaten run to eight.

And with Erling Haaland, who scored both goals against the Toffees, and Kevin de Bruyne both returning from injury and recapturing their scintillating form, Manchester City are primed for another title challenge.

Pep's side won the treble last season and followed that up by lifting the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup while narrowly missing out on the Community Shield to Arsenal. Manchester City will want to become the first team to win back-to-back UEFA Champions League titles since Zidane's Real Madrid won three in a row but must first be at their best on Tuesday.

Copenhagen, meanwhile, face one Manchester giant months after shocking the city's other powerhouse: Manchester United. The Danish club were grouped alongside the Red Devils, German champions Bayern Munich, and iconic Turkish side Galatasaray yet defied the odds by making it into the round of 16.

The Superliga outfit finished second in Group A behind the Bavarians, knocking out both Manchester United and Galatasaray along the way thanks to some unforgettable results. The most memorable one was the 4-3 win over Erik ten Hag's side, with Roony Bardghji scoring a dramatic late winner.

Byens hold picked up eight points in the group stage, and what is remarkable is that seven of those eight points were won in their final three matches. Jacob Neestrup's men beat Galatasaray 1-0 in the final game, with a draw with Bayern sandwiched in between, thus capping off a spectacular final run.

However, things have become bumpy for the Danish outfit. While still third in the table, Copenhagen are winless in their last three Superliga matches and enter this UEFA Champions League showdown with only four wins from their last 12 matches.

Team news

Copenhagen: Lerager is suspended for this tie. Furthermore, Davit Khocholava and Theo Sander are injured for this game while Birger Meling is a doubt.

Man City: The visitors are without  Josko Gvardiol, Sergio Gomez, and Mateo Kovacic. However, De Bruyne, Silva, and Walker should all return to the lineup after dropping to the bench for the Everton win.

Key stats
