The Argentine coach has moved into isolation ahead of the new La Liga season.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has tested positive for coronavirus, a statement by the club has confirmed. The 50-year-old coach of Los Rojiblancos is set to spend then next 14 days in self-isolation despite showing no symptoms.

His side is set to kickstart the 2020/2021 campaign by traveling to Levanate on September 20, 2020. However, that will not be until the Wanda Metropolitano outfit takes on Cadiz in a pre-season friendly.

Diego Simeone was expected to oversee both clashes having been back in training with his team since last Monday. However, his involvement in the upcoming games have now been ruled out after the recent round of tests revealed his positive COVID-19 status.

The club statement read: "The first team, coaching staff and auxiliary personnel underwent tests on Friday as soon as they returned from training in Los Angeles de San Rafael after a positive test was returned by a member of the travelling party in the previous tests carried out on Thursday.

"The analysis of these new samples in the laboratory has determined that our coach, Diego Pablo Simeone, has given a positive result for Covid-19.

"Fortunately, he does not present any symptoms and is isolating at his home and fulfilling the quarantine after taking training with the team since last Monday."
