Juventus defender Daniele Rugani and Olympiacos owner Evangelos Marinakis have made soccer news headlines around the world after testing positive for the coronavirus disease. And now, board members of professional leagues have either suspended their competitions or are in the process of making a drastic decision.

Serie A was the first big league to be suspended given the alarming amount of CODIV-19 cases that have happened in Italy. The MLS suspended its 2020 season for 30 days after just two weeks of play. Real Madrid has quarantined its players after Real Madrid basketball players tested positive for the virus causing La Liga to be suspended for the upcoming two Matchdays. And UEFA announced that the Champions League matches Real Madrid vs Manchester City and Lyon vs Juventus will be postponed.

Similarly, Europa League matches Sevilla vs Roma, Inter Milan vs Getafe, and Frankfurt vs Basel will also be postponed. The remainder of the Europa League matches are set to be played behind closed doors.

Is UEFA Euro 2020 postponed, canceled, or happening?

L'Équipe reported that UEFA executives will meet via video conference next week and announce the temporary suspension of the Champions and Europa League. Also, the governing body is set to postpone the Euro 2020 to 2021.

The idea behind this plan is to give the two European club competitions a chance to finish without the international competition getting in the way. The leagues would run until the Summer and the Euro 2020, which is supposed to take place from June 12 through July 12, would then be played the following summer.

UEFA will need permission from FIFA to delay the Euro given that the new Club World Cup was being planned for the summer of 2021.

If the Euro 2020 is postponed, then what happens to the Women's Euro 2021?

The obvious answer is that the Women's Euro 2021, which is due to be played in England from July 11 to August 1, will be moved to 2022 according to an anonymous AP source.
