The Manchester Derby might not be played on Sunday due to bad weather, but Man United has received a huge boost nonetheless. Mourinho’s side welcomes City to Old Trafford with a long list of absentees, but one man looks to make it back in time for the weekend clash.
Paul Pogba is suspended for this game after receiving a straight red in the Arsenal win – he will now miss the Red Devils’ next three league games. Elsewhere, Michael Carrick, Eric Bailly, and Nemanja Matic are all carrying injuries; but the Serbian midfielder will play nonetheless.
Luckily for the 20-time Premier League champion, Marouane Fellaini is fit and is line to make his return against the league leader. The Belgian ace has not featured for United since injuring his knee in the 1-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion, but his spell on the sidelines is expected to end this weekend.
The Special One refuses to get his hopes up until a late fitness test, but the Mirror reports that the midfielder has trained all week. He will thus be available to offer the Red Devils aerial threat and combative force in the middle of the field.
Fellaini isn’t the only injury doubt in line to play on Sunday. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Phil Jones were also concerns, but both are expected to be available alongside the former Everton ace.
This is a huge boost for Mourinho’s side due to the importance of a victory. City has been rampant so far this season and has increased their lead at the top to eight points, meaning the Old Trafford side must triumph to keep the title race alive and running.
