USMNT play Panama for their WC qualifier on Tuesday but have a major problem ahead of this match. Bruce Arena needs to come up with a different lineup now that he is missing many of his key players due to injuries. So how will he cope with this problem? Here's the most likely scenario.
Players who have already been ruled out of this match include Timmy Chandler, Fabian Johnson, Brad Guzan, Deandre Yedlin, Bobby Wood, Sebastian Lletget, Jordan Morris, John Brooks and Michael Orozco. Most of the injured players in the list are midfielders and this is where Paul Arriola comes in to fill in the game. The Tijuana man has already made three appearances for MNT, and could find his way into the starting lineup to replace fellow midfielder Deandre Yedlin.
Tim Ream could replace Brooks at the heart of the defence following the latter's injury against Honduras. Walker Zimmerman of FC Dallas also fits this role but Ream is still the likeliest opponent.
Jermaine Jones returns from suspension, and could start at the midfield to replace Lletget. Alternatively, Alejandro Bedoya could also play a part at the center of the field.
The good news is, the visitors still have the attacking power that demolished Honduras 6-0 last week. Their hat-trick hero Clint Dempsey, wonderkid Christian Pulisic, veteran Michael Bradley and goal-machine Jozy Altidore are all expected to feature in this match. So as things stand now, in attack, the USMNT have little to worry about. With the right supply of balls from the midfield and wings, the visitors stand a high chance of returning home with all three points.
