Man United, in their ambition to return to the top of English football, are constantly linked with moves for some of the game’s biggest names. First there were the Antoine Griezmann rumors, now reports claim the Red Devils are interested in Neymar.
Of course, this is nothing new. The 20-time Premier League champions were believed to be after the Brazilian ace last summer. The player snubbed interest from Jose Mourinho’s side in favor of a Barca stay, but has endured an inconsistent season so far.
The Selecao star signed a new deal with the Blaugrana in October that runs until 2021, but in his contract is a €200m release clause. Man United, not afraid of splashing the cash, are ready to trigger that buyout clause.
This is according to SPORT, reporting that not only would he become the world’s most expensive player, but also the Premier League highest-paid footballer. The 24-year-old could earn £415,000 per week, a wage package that would eclipse Wayne Rooney’s.
It remains to be seen whether Neymar would be open to a Premier League move. At Camp Nou, he thrives with some of the world’s best players at one of the best clubs. United are yet to find their groove, and face a struggle to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
