Matchday 22 was one of shock results. Matchday 23 was one of goals, goals, and more goals. Two games alone saw a whopping 16 scored, as Napoli crushed Bologna and Lazio routed Pescara. Not surprisingly, plenty of personal milestones were set over the weekend, and we just may see history made as Roma take on Fiorentina on Tuesday.

1. Dries Mertens makes history

The Belgian midfielder has been having a peach of a season. With 16 goals, he's currently leading the Serie A scoring charts, and grabbed a hat-trick during Napoli's 7-1 rout of Bologna on Saturday.

That was his third hat-trick of the season. And in doing so, he becomes the first foreign player to score three trebles in one campaign. 13 of those goals have been in just eight appearances, and Mertens will be looking to score back-to-back hat-tricks as Napoli prepare to take on Genoa.

Mind you, he's already done that, when he netted three against Cagliari and then a poker against Torino. That was the first time since Pietro Anastasi did so in 1974 for Juventus.

2. Using his head to good effect...

Mertens wasn't the only player to have a good day at the office. Lazio rebounded from a shock loss to Chievo by crushing Pescara 6-2, and it was Marco Parolo who arguably was the star of the show:

Before he became a Gunner...and played for Barcelona, Alexis Sanchez plied his trade for Udinese. The Zebrette have long been a place where young talents hone their talents before moving on to bigger clubs. In any case, Parolo's poker on the road matches a precedent set by Sanchez five years ago:

Marco Parolo surely will not be forgetting Lazio's 6-2 crushing of Pescara in quite some time...four goals for a central midfielder is certainly an impressive feat. He also has now surpassed his total goal output from last term, which saw him net three.

4. Pescara's penalty woes

Speaking of Pescara, they are still the only team yet to win an actual game on the pitch. The Delfini, in failing to convert another spot kick set a rather unwanted precedent:

- With Palermo's home win, Pescara are now the only team yet to win a home fixture...but then again, the Delfini haven't won a single game on the pitch this season

- Inter's seven game winning streak was the longest in Serie A before it was snapped by Juventus

- Juventus, Roma, and Fiorentina are the only teams yet to lose a home game this season

- Napoli have lost the fewest number of games (3) and with just two away defeats, have the best road record in the league

- Cagliari and Crotone have the worst away record in the top flight, with ten defeats on the road

- The Bianconeri are still the only team who have yet to draw a game this season

- Their cross-town rivals Torino have the most number of draws (8)
